About Storage

It depends on what is your needs. For running simple large file server you should use a HDD storage. If you will work with databases and have more concurrent connections you should use SSDs. The NVMe is recommended only for big projects.

If using Compute Engine virtual server there are multiple protocols which can be used. For Linux servers we recommend an NFS (Network File System v4). For Windows server there is SMB filesharing protocol. At last there is the most advanced supported version OpenISCSI which should be used only by professionals.

The storage can be attached to App Engine instance and will be automatically scaled to pre-defined limits.

There is complex backup system ran on background of storage. There is periodic incremental backup of files you will have on Storage. By default the files are held for 7 days, then it will rewrite day by day.

For secure delete all your data you should first cancel the Storage service. Then you can activate secure deletion process. The process means rewriting your data for about 7 days by random generated data multiple times. That way you can be sure the data cannot be recovered by any software. Then it will be removed.

We fight against the data stealing from physical drives by using OpenSource Encryption software. The software encryption is the most secure form of data encryption because of hardware vendors have their own piece of hardware that is closed and it's very hard to reverse engineer it thus impossible to audit. That way we make sure that even if hardware failure we can send the drive to vendor for RMA and everything will be pretty secure.
